Four months have passed since my last post.
In first weekend of March I took part in Biohack. Unfortunately, I had no chance to work on my own project, since only a few people wanted to work on it, and due to rules it wasn’t allowed to work on. My friends’ applications were rejected :( So, I chose another project - very routine and not-so-interesting-at-all and tried to do my best. Since it...

Since last post many things happened. I spent 1 week in Dolgoprudny, at DeepHack - supercool school & hackathon on deep learning(this year the main theme was reinforcement learning). I should say that I wasn’t very productive enough during hackathon, but it was a good opportunity to kick myself to read about new subject and to do something. And to travel to Moscow, of course!
The good thing is, during this hackathon I...

I haven’t wrote anything here for almost 5 months. Well, that’s because everything turned upside down and not the way I expected.
After I finished Outreachy internship in Debian in August, I applied to my dream job at Biocad. And I was accepted and started to work there as a little bioinformatician (formal title sounds more like “junior bioinformatics specialist”, but “little bioinformatician” sounds better).
A huge success, you might think.
But it turned out...

My PyMOL changes were accepted, yay! =) Closed 2 bugs:
What if you want to install with debian/install file all files in specific directory, except several names? This won’t work:
examples/cookbook/(?!dali\.py|ribosome\.pml)* /usr/share/pymol/examples/cookbook/
The problem is...

For now it seems that I’ve stuck on apbs
package tests.
One of them should be (these lines should appear in debian/tests/control
):
Test-Command: python -c "from abpslib import *"
Depends: @
It won’t work, since...

Today I decided to start working on testsuite for PyMoL. I haven’t finished tests for 2 RostLab packages, and we decided to wait for answer from upstream maintainers - I thought we need some additional details on profphd
upstream ChangeLog to make everything work. For now it’s better not to waste time while waiting and move forward.
And for now I’ll write tests for it. It’s great! I love PyMol!
But it...

Last weekend I wrote poetry.
Sometimes I do it, when there are too much feelings inside and I want to free them.
That poem I wrote reminds Robert Browning’s poem “Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came”, it is full of sharp words like “horrible”, “glimpse” and others. I’m like a knight in shining armor. And bad dragon or some malicious creature of the night is named perl. Yeah, like programming language.
Actually, I was...

I started my Outreachy internship with clear and precise timeline, which was part of my application.
Reality ruined it. I haven’t planned to get ill or to spend too much time figuring out what’s wrong with Vagrant.
That’s what my initial timeline looks like...

Hurray! Now I’m an Outreachy program intern in Debian-Med Team!
My internship started with two problems: I’ve got a cold in Genehack-2 and had unexpected troubles with my main task - testing. First problem was quite easy to solve - by staying home.
Second problem… Well, it came out of nothing and was is totally was a problem because of my stubbornness.
When I need to write something which should run...

Last weekend I went to Genehack - annual bioinformatics hackathon held in Moscow. It was great!
This was my second attempt to take part in hackathon or hackathon-like event not remotely. There was almost no one person I know - for me it’s hardest part.
This photo shows me and one of my teammates yesterday. Having almost no sleep for 2 days...

Few days ago my friend sent me this story. She wanted to encourage me to do things I’m afraid to fail, and to inspire me to move to something exciting from my previous greatest failure.
The story reminds me of one particular situation in my past, which describes well who am I and what will always be.
Once me and my classmate went to interview to get internship at helpline service in small...
